In a bold move to propel her national leadership agenda and inspire a generational shift in agribusiness, Githunguri Member of Parliament Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba has unveiled the formation of a Youth in Agriculture Advisory Council. The new initiative targets high-performing youth in agribusiness to spearhead mentorship and help shape future governance policies focused on youth inclusion.
The council will consist of 50 young Kenyans, all below the age of 35, who are actively engaged in any field of agribusiness and are earning a net income of at least KES 500,000 per month from their ventures. According to the MP, this elite team of agripreneurs will be tasked with two primary mandates: mentoring fellow youth across the country to venture into profitable agriculture, and advising on youth-focused agricultural policy to be integrated into her future leadership strategy.
"We must make agribusiness attractive to the Kenyan youths. The time has come to change the perception of agriculture from a last resort to a first-choice career," said Hon. Wamuchomba.
The council is envisioned to be a dynamic think tank of young, successful agricultural investors who have cracked the code in farming, value addition, distribution, agri-tech, or any other agribusiness field. Through their stories and expertise, the MP hopes to inspire a larger national movement that positions agriculture as a key economic pillar for the youth.
Young agripreneurs meeting the criteria are encouraged to inbox Hon. Wamuchomba directly, including pictures and evidence of their ventures to be considered for the advisory team.
The initiative comes at a time when youth unemployment remains a major challenge in Kenya, yet agriculture continues to hold vast untapped potential for innovation, wealth creation, and food security.
With this move, Hon. Wamuchomba cements her position as a trailblazer in youth empowerment and policy innovation redefining what leadership looks like in Kenya’s future.
