In a momentous event that celebrated both local leadership and national representation, H.E. Fernandes Barasa, the Governor of Kakamega County, attended the thanksgiving ceremony of the newly appointed Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) Commissioner, Leonid Ashindu, held at Manyala Primary School in Butere Sub-county on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Governor Barasa took the opportunity to express his full confidence in Commissioner Ashindu’s appointment, commending his track record and ability to contribute significantly to the SRC's work. “I have no doubt that Commissioner Ashindu will bring immense value to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, and I wish him every success as he embarks on this important national role,” Governor Barasa remarked during his address to the gathering.
The Governor also took the chance to update the residents on key ongoing developments in Kakamega County. He assured the community that the last-mile connectivity for the Firatsi Water Project was actively progressing, emphasizing his administration's commitment to improving water access across the region. "We are committed to ensuring that every household in Kakamega has access to clean and reliable water," Barasa noted.
Additionally, Governor Barasa provided an update on the Shiatsala Market project, confirming that work will soon resume following the completion of the re-tendering process. “The Shiatsala Market is an important project for the local economy, and I am pleased to announce that it will be completed soon,” he stated.
In his speech, Governor Barasa praised both President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for their commitment to ensuring that sons and daughters of Kakamega County are well represented in national appointments. “This is a step toward inclusive governance, where the voices of our people are heard at the national level,” he said, highlighting the importance of local representation in national decision-making.
The thanksgiving ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Butere Member of Parliament, Hon. Tindi Mwale, SRC Chairperson, Sammy Chepkwony, Kakamega County Executive Members led by CS Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka, as well as representatives from various commissions and other prominent local leaders.
The event marked a significant occasion for the people of Kakamega, not only as they celebrated the achievements of a local son but also as they looked forward to continued development in the region under the leadership of Governor Barasa.
