Governor Barasa Champions Clean Water Access Through Strategic Partnerships

In a strong show of commitment to addressing water accessibility challenges, Kakamega Governor H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa today hosted Bishop Wade Basse of Shepherd International and County Chaplain Apostle Ken Baraza in a high-level engagement focused on delivering clean and safe water to residents across the county.

The meeting, held at the county headquarters, centered on a new and innovative water production model aimed at expanding access to reliable water sources in line with Governor Barasa’s Amatsi Khumuliango initiative. The vision, which translates to “Water at the Doorstep,” is a key pillar of the Governor’s development agenda, focused on ensuring every household in Kakamega enjoys consistent access to safe drinking water.

Governor Barasa underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in driving sustainable development, stating that collaboration with organizations like Shepherd International will play a vital role in overcoming infrastructural and resource-related challenges.

“We are committed to forging impactful partnerships that offer long-term solutions to our people. Clean water is not a luxury — it is a basic right. Through initiatives like Amatsi Khumuliango, we are working tirelessly to make this a reality for every home in Kakamega,” Governor Barasa affirmed.

Bishop Wade Basse praised the Governor’s leadership and pledged Shepherd International’s support in delivering practical water solutions, particularly in underserved areas. Apostle Ken Baraza echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the moral and social imperative of ensuring water access for all.

Also present at the meeting were officials from the Ministry of Water, led by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Peninah Mukabana, who shared technical insights into the county’s water infrastructure needs and the progress made thus far.

With increasing demand for clean water driven by population growth and climate variability, Kakamega County’s focus on innovation and collaboration marks a progressive step towards water security. Today's meeting lays the groundwork for upcoming projects and joint ventures that promise to uplift thousands of households across the county.
