Governor Bii Flags Off KSh 21 Million Drug Supply to 138 Health Facilities

In a significant boost to healthcare services across Uasin Gishu County, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii on Wednesday flagged off a consignment of essential drugs worth KSh 21 million, set to be distributed to 138 health facilities countywide.

The delivery, facilitated through the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), marks the first batch of a larger order totaling KSh 36 million. Governor Bii confirmed that the remaining consignment, valued at KSh 14.5 million, is expected to arrive within the next two weeks.

“We have received drugs worth 21.5 million after our order of 36 million. The deficit of 14.5 million will be delivered in two weeks through the back order,” Dr. Bii said during the flag-off ceremony.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to healthcare development, describing it as a cornerstone of his leadership agenda. He stressed the importance of timely drug supply in ensuring efficient and effective service delivery in public health facilities.

“Access to quality healthcare is non-negotiable, and we are working to ensure every resident can walk into a facility and get the treatment they need without unnecessary delays,” said Dr. Bii.

The newly dispatched consignment is expected to significantly ease drug shortages, a challenge that has strained health services in recent months. The move has been welcomed by health workers and residents alike, who anticipate improved service delivery and better patient outcomes.

Governor Bii also commended Mama Rachel Maternity Hospital for its outstanding service, noting an increased patient turnout driven by the facility’s commitment to quality care.

Joining the Governor at the event were Deputy Governor Hon. Evans Kapkea, County Executive for Health Services Dr. Abraham Serem, Chief of Staff Dr. Patrick Chumba, and Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health Dr. Paul Wangwe.

The county leadership reaffirmed its dedication to transforming the healthcare sector through improved infrastructure, staffing, and consistent supply of medical commodities.
