Governor Bii Launches Livestock Auction to Boost Quality and Farmer Incomes in Uasin Gishu

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has announced a major step forward in the county’s efforts to transform its livestock sector, following the successful public auction held today at Chebororwa Agricultural Training Centre (ATC). The event marked a milestone in the county’s strategic plan to enhance livestock quality, farmer incomes, and overall agricultural productivity.

In a statement released after the event, Governor Bii described the auction as more than just a sale — calling it a key part of a long-term strategy to modernize livestock farming across Uasin Gishu.

“Today’s public auction at Chebororwa ATC is a significant step in our plan to improve livestock quality across the county,” said Governor Bii. “We are focused on building a modern, productive, and profitable livestock industry that benefits every farmer.”

Focus on Superior Genetics and Farmer Training

Governor Bii emphasized that the county government is committed to expanding access to Artificial Insemination (AI) services, bringing in superior animal genetics, and offering comprehensive training to livestock farmers.

“This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure our farmers have access to high-quality breeds and the knowledge they need to manage them effectively,” he explained. “With better breeds and the right support, productivity will rise — and so will household incomes.”

Economic Empowerment Through Agriculture

With agriculture being the backbone of Uasin Gishu’s economy, the governor noted that livestock development remains central to his administration’s economic empowerment agenda. The auction is expected to stimulate interest among local farmers to adopt better breeding practices and invest in improved livestock.

“By strengthening our livestock value chain, we are not only improving food security but also creating new income opportunities for our farming communities,” Bii added.

A Model for Other Counties

The auction drew participation from hundreds of farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. It also showcased Uasin Gishu’s capacity to implement practical solutions that directly impact farmers on the ground.

Governor Bii pledged continued support for the livestock sector through further investments in extension services, veterinary support, and farmer cooperatives.

“This is just the beginning. We are committed to walking with our farmers every step of the way,” he said. “Together, we will build a sustainable, thriving livestock industry in Uasin Gishu.”
