Governor George Natembeya's Legacy: Transformative Projects Mark His Leadership

Since being sworn in as Governor, George Natembeya has set a remarkable pace in Trans Nzoia County, spearheading a series of initiatives that span healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and public service. His leadership is characterized by a deep commitment to improving the lives of the county's residents, with numerous projects already making a tangible impact.

Healthcare Advancements

A major milestone in healthcare is the upcoming opening of the Tom Mboya Mother and Baby Hospital in February 2025. This 80-bed facility will be dedicated to maternal and infant care, addressing critical healthcare gaps in the region. In addition, over 2,000 community health promoters have been engaged to deliver essential health services directly to households, ensuring that vital care reaches even the most remote areas.

Agricultural Revitalization

Governor Natembeya has also made strides in improving food security. Through the Fukuza Njaa Initiative, over 254,000 households have already benefited from free, high-quality seeds. Starting January 2025, an additional 100,000 households will receive the same support. This initiative is a key part of the county's broader strategy to address food insecurity and uplift local farmers.

In a bid to combat climate change, the county has successfully planted 2.3 million trees. Moreover, alternative livelihoods such as beekeeping have been introduced, especially for communities living near wetlands, enabling them to diversify their income sources while protecting the environment.

Infrastructure Development

Under Natembeya's leadership, infrastructure development has been a priority. Over 2,000 kilometers of roads have been graded, vastly improving connectivity across the county. Key projects such as the upgrade of the Ie Matumbei road network and town roads have eased travel and boosted commerce.

Urban development is also a key focus, with plans underway to upgrade Kiminini market into a municipality, enhancing its commercial appeal. Additionally, the ongoing construction of Kenyatta Stadium, which will accommodate over 20,000 spectators, promises to provide a world-class venue for sports and community events.

Governor Natembeya is also addressing stalled projects, including the Lol Keringet ECDE Centre and Simatwet Dispensary, to ensure these vital services are completed without further delay.

Revitalizing Kitale Town

The revitalization of Kitale town, a project launched in September 2022, aims to attract investors and improve the urban landscape. These efforts are expected to transform the town into a vibrant hub for business and tourism.

Educational Empowerment

Education remains a cornerstone of Natembeya’s legacy. The Ukombozi School Milk Program has been introduced to provide milk twice weekly to over 43,000 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners. This initiative seeks to tackle malnutrition while promoting better school attendance and engagement.

In terms of support for higher learning, the Elimu Bursary program has already assisted 22,000 students in public day schools. Additionally, the funding for vocational training centers has seen a significant boost, with individual trainee support rising from Kshs 2,000 to Kshs 13,000.

Public Service Modernization

Governor Natembeya has also set his sights on modernizing public service delivery. Plans are underway to construct a state-of-the-art headquarters to centralize county operations, improving efficiency and accessibility for residents.

As Governor Natembeya continues to lead with vision and determination, the positive impacts of his initiatives are evident across Trans Nzoia. From healthcare and education to infrastructure and environmental conservation, his leadership is leaving a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations.
