Governor Natembeya Claims His Life Is in Danger

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has raised serious concerns over his safety, alleging that his life is in danger following what he termed as sustained surveillance and intimidation by individuals linked to President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Sulwe FM on Tuesday, April 15, Natembeya claimed that unknown individuals have been trailing him, a move he believes is connected to his vocal criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government. Despite the alleged threats, the former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner declared that he will not be silenced.

“Following someone around makes it seem like this country lacks freedom,” Natembeya said. “It’s as if anyone who doesn’t sing praises to the president is seen as a problem. I won’t accept that.”

He accused the government of attempting to silence dissenting voices through fear and intimidation, adding that such tactics will not deter him from speaking the truth.

“I know they will send people to come after me. Maybe they will come to kill me... I don't care. Whether you kill me or not, I will still die. So I am going to speak up,” he asserted defiantly.

Natembeya drew comparisons between his current experiences and his time serving under former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He praised Kenyatta for being receptive to criticism, saying he would listen and make adjustments—unlike the current administration, which he accused of dismissing opposing views.

“No One Will Stop Me”

The outspoken governor warned of political consequences in the upcoming 2027 General Election should the government fail to listen to the frustrations of ordinary Kenyans. He hinted at a possible shift in political alignment if the current leadership continues to ignore the voices of its critics.

“If they don’t want to listen, that’s their problem,” Natembeya remarked. “But no one will stop me from speaking the truth.”

Criticism of Presidential Priorities

The governor’s comments come just days after he publicly criticised President Ruto’s constant countrywide tours, questioning whether the president has sufficient time to focus on actual policy implementation. He also took issue with Ruto’s recent announcement to purchase a machine capable of producing one million chapatis daily for school children, branding the move a “misplaced priority.”

“Instead of symbolic gestures, the youth need sustainable job opportunities, not publicity stunts,” he said.
