Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has provided a positive update on the ongoing construction of the state-of-the-art Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale, a project poised to transform sports and recreation in the region. The stadium, with a capacity of 20,000, is expected to be a major landmark for both local and national sports activities upon its completion.
Governor Natembeya, who has been closely monitoring the progress of the project, emphasized the county’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing world-class recreational facilities for both residents and visitors. He highlighted that the stadium will not only host major sports events but will also feature cutting-edge amenities, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool and modern indoor sports facilities.
“This project is a testament to our dedication to advancing sports in Trans-Nzoia County and the entire Rift Valley region,” said Governor Natembeya. “Kenyatta Stadium is not just a facility; it’s a catalyst for developing local talent, promoting physical activity, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle for our community.”
The inclusion of an Olympic-sized swimming pool and other indoor sports facilities underscores the county's commitment to diversifying sports offerings and creating an inclusive environment for athletes across different disciplines. The new stadium is expected to be a key venue for national and international sports events, boosting tourism and economic activity in the area.
Governor Natembeya also noted that the facility will be open to schools and local clubs, providing an accessible venue for youth to develop their skills and pursue their dreams in sports. The county government has been working with national sports bodies to ensure that the infrastructure is up to international standards, positioning Trans-Nzoia as a leading hub for sports excellence in Kenya.
“We are investing in our youth, our future champions, and we are providing a space where they can thrive. This facility will not only serve as a venue for professional sports but will also be a place where people from all walks of life can engage in recreational activities,” he added.
The construction of Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale is part of a broader initiative by the county government to improve sports infrastructure and promote wellness. Governor Natembeya expressed his confidence that the facility would play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sports in the region and creating new opportunities for the people of Trans-Nzoia.
As work continues, the stadium is expected to be completed in the coming months, with the county government looking forward to the grand opening and the numerous benefits it will bring to the community.
