The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, EGH, today convened a high-level meeting with leaders of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) at Afya House, Nairobi, to assess the progress made in implementing the Return-to-Work Agreement signed earlier this year.
Present at the meeting were KMPDU Secretary-General Dr. Davji Bhimji Atellah, Union Chairperson Dr. Abidan Mwachi, and other senior officials. They were joined by the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, CBS.
CS Duale reiterated the Ministry of Health’s unwavering commitment to engaging constructively with the union and other stakeholders in the health sector. He acknowledged the critical role that healthcare professionals play in delivering quality healthcare services and emphasized that safeguarding their rights and welfare is key to the successful rollout of the government’s Taifa Care model.
“The Ministry is committed to finding sustainable, long-term solutions that ensure affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare for all Kenyans under our Universal Health Coverage agenda,” said Hon. Duale.
He also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to fully implement the Return-to-Work Formula and praised the union for its continued collaboration and good faith. “Structured dialogue and mutual accountability are essential to resolving outstanding issues and maintaining industrial harmony,” he added.
Dr. Atellah and his team expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s willingness to engage and reiterated the union’s support for initiatives aimed at strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system.
The meeting marks a continued effort to foster trust and transparency between the government and health sector professionals, a critical step in addressing systemic challenges and improving service delivery across the country.
