The Hon. Eng. John Kiragu Chege, Member of Parliament for Limuru, led the successful second phase of bursary cheque issuance during a colorful event held at Kamandura Girls Secondary School. The ceremony saw the disbursement of bursaries worth KES 15 million to support students in both day and boarding schools.
This latest round of allocations, made possible through the Limuru National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG CDF) under the leadership of Hon. Kiragu, builds on an earlier phase in which KES 22 million was already distributed to support day scholars within the constituency.
“Our commitment to education is stronger than ever,” Hon. Kiragu stated during the event. “This bursary programme is a testament to our dedication to ensuring that no student in Limuru is left behind.”
Looking ahead, Phase Three of the bursary programme targeting boarding schools, universities, colleges, and vocational training institutions is scheduled for May 2025. The MP emphasized that education remains the cornerstone of the constituency's development agenda.
In a major boost to student welfare, Hon. Kiragu also announced the official rollout of the Tap to Eat feeding programme for day secondary schools in Limuru, starting this term. The initiative aims to improve school attendance and academic performance by providing meals to students from vulnerable backgrounds.
Quoting the late Nelson Mandela, the MP reaffirmed his belief in the transformative power of education:
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
The event was graced by notable leaders including Hon. Githua Wamacukuru (MP, Kabete) and Hon. Pacifica Ongecha (MCA, Kiambu County). Also in attendance were officials from the Limuru NG CDF Committee, school principals, and parents of the bursary recipients.
By investing in the education of its young people, the leadership of Limuru continues to lay a strong foundation for a brighter, more equitable future. As Hon. Kiragu aptly put it:
“Our journey continues, and no student will be left behind.”
