Hon. Leah Sankaire, the Woman Representative for Kajiado County, continues to set a national example through her unwavering commitment to grassroots development. With passion and a clear vision for an empowered society, Hon. Sankaire is leveraging the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) to uplift women, youth, and marginalized communities across the region.
A vibrant public event held in Kajiado served as a powerful showcase of the transformative impact of NGAAF under her leadership. From distributing income-generating tools such as sewing machines and water tanks to supporting small businesses and enhancing access to basic services, the day highlighted how NGAAF is changing lives on the ground.
The event was graced by several high-ranking national leaders, demonstrating strong bipartisan support for affirmative action initiatives. Among those present were National Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, Majority Whip Hon. Silvanus Osoro, Kajiado Central MP Hon. Elijah Memusi Kanchory, and Vihiga County Woman Representative Hon. Beatrice Adagala. Their presence not only honored the efforts of Hon. Sankaire but also signaled a broader recognition of NGAAF’s essential role in national development.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Sankaire reaffirmed her belief that sustainable progress starts at the grassroots. “When we empower women and youth, we empower families, we empower communities—and ultimately, we empower Kenya,” she said. “This is not charity; it is an investment in the potential and productivity of our people.”
However, amidst the celebration, there was a shared concern over the recent Ksh 500 million budget cut to NGAAF. Hon. Sankaire made a passionate appeal to Parliament and the Executive to urgently reinstate the full budget. “Let’s not slow down the dreams of our people. Let’s build, not break,” she said. Her sentiments were echoed by fellow leaders who emphasized that NGAAF is not just a fund, but a catalyst for dignity, opportunity, and economic inclusion.
Hon. Ichung’wah commended Sankaire’s hands-on leadership, noting that the visible impact in Kajiado should serve as a model for other counties. Hon. Osoro and Hon. Adagala also called for increased protection of such development funds, especially during economically challenging times when vulnerable populations need them most.
From testimonials of empowered women to energized youth now running their own businesses, the event painted a clear picture: NGAAF works—and cutting its budget would mean turning back on the very communities it is meant to serve.
As Kenya continues to strive for inclusive development, leaders like Hon. Leah Sankaire are proving that meaningful change begins with intentional investment and visionary leadership at the local level.
