Mombasa Woman Representative Hon. Zamzam Mohamed has expressed strong opposition to the recent budget cuts to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), citing potential harm to vulnerable populations across the country.
Speaking during a session in the National Assembly, Hon. Zamzam said the reduction of KSh 500 million from the fund threatens to derail crucial community-based initiatives targeting women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
“This fund is a lifeline to thousands of Kenyans who rely on it for empowerment and livelihood. Slashing it is not just a financial cut, it is a direct blow to the most disadvantaged in our society,” she stated.
The lawmaker called on President William Ruto to urgently intervene by holding consultations with Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u to ensure the slashed funds are reinstated.
“I appeal to His Excellency the President to take immediate action and ensure the KSh 500 million is returned to NGAAF. The consequences of this cut will be felt deeply across the grassroots,” she added.
Hon. Zamzam joins a growing number of Woman Representatives raising alarm over the budgetary reductions, warning that the move undermines progress made in addressing inequality and promoting social inclusion through NGAAF supported programs.
The fund, established to support affirmative action efforts at the constituency level, plays a critical role in financing projects focused on economic empowerment, education support, and health services for marginalized groups.
