I never imagined that getting a loan, just a simple loan, would become one of the most humiliating and exhausting chapters of my life. My name is Kevin, a small business owner from Jinja, Uganda. They denied me three times.
The first time, I was told my collateral wasn’t strong enough. The second, they said my credit history had gaps. The third, they didn’t even give me a reason. They simply told me, “Try again next year.” Try again? While my competition was thriving and my customers were outgrowing my tiny shop?
I walked out of that bank the third time with tears burning in my eyes. Not because of the money, but because it felt like the world had already written me off. I had poured my heart into that business. Waking up at 5 a.m., closing at midnight, saving every coin. And still… doors were closed.
