IG Douglas Kanja Officially Opens Senior Training Course No. 13 & 14 at Emali Campus

 



The Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, today marked his first official visit to the National Police Service Senior Staff College – Emali Campus in Kajiado County for the opening of the Senior Training Course No. 13 & 14/2025. The event, held on April 1st, 2025, was a significant occasion for the course participants, who are set to undergo a six-month training program aimed at preparing them for their new roles as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP).

IG Kanja was warmly received by the Acting Commandant of the institution, Mr. Rem Mutabari Julius, CP, and the Deputy Commandant, Mr. Isaac Nzomo, SSP. The visit included a tour of the newly constructed housing facilities that will accommodate the course participants during their training period.

In his address to the officers, IG Kanja congratulated the selected class for making it through a rigorous interview process, encouraging them to support each other throughout their training and beyond. He emphasized the critical role each officer plays in contributing to the success and professionalism of the Police Service, highlighting the importance of efficiency, responsiveness, and accountability within the force.

"Your success in this course is not just a personal achievement, but a stepping stone to greater responsibility within the Police Service. It is essential that we continue to prioritize training and skills enhancement to meet the evolving demands of modern policing," IG Kanja said.

The training course comprises 16 officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and 56 from the Administration Police Service (APS). These officers reported to Emali Campus on March 23rd, 2025, and will undergo a comprehensive training programme aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their new leadership roles.

The IG was joined by the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, who was also visiting the institution for the first time since taking office. In addition, senior officers present at the event included the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Mr. Ranson Lolmodooni, the Deputy Director of DCI, Mr. John Onyango, Director of Personnel APS, Mr. Hesbon Lusweti, and Director of Corporate Communication, Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, among other senior officials.

The official opening of Senior Training Course No. 13 & 14 marks a key milestone in the National Police Service’s ongoing commitment to professional development, ensuring that officers are equipped with the tools and training necessary to serve and protect Kenyan citizens effectively.

As IG Kanja pointed out, the ongoing investment in training and leadership development is essential to ensuring that the Police Service remains prepared to address the challenges of modern policing, with a focus on professionalism, accountability, and public trust.
