Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for President William Ruto's resignation in light of serious corruption allegations made by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi. Speaking at the Redeemed Gospel Church in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County, Kalonzo emphasized the gravity of the claims, asserting that Muturi's reputation as a former Attorney General and close associate of President Ruto makes his accusations particularly significant.
"A former Attorney General put it clearly that the foundation of the country is shaking because of corruption," Kalonzo said, underscoring the importance of addressing the allegations. He further stated that Muturi’s statements, which accuse the Ruto administration of widespread corruption, should not be taken lightly.
Kalonzo also accused the Ruto government of using the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to target Wiper-affiliated governors, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti. He suggested that these investigations were politically motivated and warned the President against undermining these governors without thoroughly addressing the corruption allegations raised by Muturi.
In addition to these accusations, Kalonzo criticized the involvement of high-ranking security officials, particularly Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, in political rallies. He argued that security officers should remain neutral and not engage in political campaigns. “We are telling our men and women in uniform to stick to their lane. You can’t have the IG of police campaigning for you. It doesn’t happen anywhere," Kalonzo said.
These remarks follow Muturi's recent dismissal from his cabinet post, after which he publicly declared President Ruto "unfit to be president." Muturi also accused the President of being aware of state-led abductions, including the controversial abduction of his own son.
Kalonzo’s call for Ruto’s resignation is likely to further intensify political tensions as the country grapples with these serious corruption allegations. The Wiper leader’s statements reflect growing discontent within the opposition, particularly regarding the handling of corruption cases and the alleged misuse of power by top government officials.
