Kapsowar Town to Benefit from Sh30 Million Water Supply Rehabilitation Project

Kapsowar Town is set to experience a significant boost in its water supply as the government embarks on a Sh30 million water supply rehabilitation project. On Thursday, April 3rd, stakeholders officially handed over the site to a contractor at the Kapchesewes treatment plant, where the project is expected to increase the existing water pipeline coverage by 19 kilometers, bringing clean water to at least 5,000 households in the region.

The expanded water network will extend from Cheles through Kapchesewes to Kapchelos, ensuring that these areas, along with Kapsowar Township and surrounding regions, will have access to a reliable and clean water supply.

The scope of the project includes the construction of a new treatment plant at Kapchesewes, rehabilitation of existing water tanks in Cheles, Ng'orng'oroi, Kiplabai, Kapchelos, and Rorok, and the rehabilitation of the Cheles treatment plant. Additionally, new pipes will be installed, and various civil works will be carried out as part of the extensive improvements.

With a cost of Sh30,107,732.36, the project is expected to be completed within five months, significantly improving water access in the area. The initiative is being implemented by the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWWDA) in collaboration with the Cherang'any and Marakwet Water and Sanitation Company (CHEMAWASCO).

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Jason Lagat, the CECM for Water, Environment, and Climate Change, emphasized that the project would be a game changer for Kapsowar Town, which has long faced water shortages that hindered its growth and development. He further reminded the community about the importance of conserving water catchment areas, especially the Kipkunur forest, which serves as the primary source of water for the region.

The ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Elgeyo Marakwet CECM for Roads and Public Works, Emmy Kosgey; General Manager of Infrastructure at NRVWWDA, Eng. Jimmy Kemboi; and Dr. Victoria Kutto, Chairperson of CHEMAWASCO. Representatives from the contractor, Vijay Company Ltd, were also present.

Locals have expressed their excitement about the project, noting that the water sourced from the Kipkunur forest is known for its purity and reliability, making it a valuable resource for the community.

This project marks a significant step towards improving infrastructure and water access for residents in Kapsowar and surrounding areas, paving the way for enhanced development and better living conditions.
