In a renewed effort to deepen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in tourism, I had the pleasure of holding fruitful engagements and deliberations with the Malaysian High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Ambassador Ruzaimi Mohamad. Our discussions centered on key areas of collaboration aimed at unlocking the immense tourism potential between our two friendly nations.
A major highlight of our discussions was the commencement of direct flights by Air Asia between Nairobi and Kuala Lumpur. This development marks a significant milestone, offering timely, convenient, and affordable travel that will bolster the movement of people, goods, and services between our two countries. The direct air link will not only increase tourist arrivals but also open new avenues for trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
In line with our commitment to positioning Kenya as a leading tourism destination, we are pleased to announce the upcoming Diplomats and Expatriates Golf Tournament scheduled for 3rd May 2025 at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club. This premier event will provide a platform to showcase Kenya as a top-tier golf destination and further reinforce our standing as a champion of sustainable tourism.
The tournament will also serve as a content-rich opportunity for storytelling, as the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife – Kenya, in collaboration with the Malaysian High Commission, will host top content creators from the ten ASEAN member states. Malaysia, currently the Chair of ASEAN, has played a pivotal role in facilitating this initiative. These creators will explore Kenya’s iconic tourism attractions—from our world-renowned national parks and pristine beaches to our museums and vibrant cultural heritage centers—with the aim of generating impactful content to be shared across various digital platforms.
This strategic content creation campaign is expected to enhance Kenya’s digital footprint and expand our tourism visibility across the Southeast Asian region.
Looking ahead, Kenya is keen to participate in upcoming travel and tourism expos to be held in Malaysia in September 2025. These expos present an excellent opportunity to market Kenya’s diverse tourism offerings to new audiences, strengthen existing partnerships, and forge new collaborations with key players in the global tourism industry.
We remain steadfast in our mission to position Kenya as the ultimate destination for sustainable tourism, and we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead through our cooperation with Malaysia and the broader ASEAN community.
