Kenya Haemophilia Association Participates in Close-Out Meeting for NNHF Project in Tanzania

The Kenya Haemophilia Association (KHA), led by Dr. Kibet Shikuku, James Kago, Adol Edwin, and Linda Muriithi, is participating in a two-day close-out meeting for the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation (NNHF) project, "Expanding Access to Blood Disorders Care in East Africa," held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on April 3–4, 2025.

The second day of the meeting brought together key regional stakeholders to celebrate the project's achievements, reflect on its impact, and explore sustainable strategies to enhance care for individuals living with blood disorders across East Africa. This initiative, which spans several countries in the region, has been pivotal in expanding access to care for those affected by haemophilia, sickle cell disease, and other blood disorders.

Representatives from the Sickle Cell Federation of Kenya (SFK), the Haemophilia Foundation of Uganda, the Haemophilia Society of Tanzania, and Rwanda Hemophilia joined the discussions, which highlighted the collaborative efforts that have made the project a success. The gathering served as a platform to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and identify ways to ensure that improvements in blood disorder care can be sustained beyond the duration of the project.

"We are deeply grateful to the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation for their unwavering support in making this initiative possible. The project's impact has been far-reaching, and this meeting is an important opportunity to reflect on our collective progress and the positive outcomes we have achieved for individuals living with blood disorders in East Africa," said Dr. Kibet Shikuku, a key figure in the Kenya Haemophilia Association.

The close-out meeting also aimed at strengthening regional partnerships and aligning future efforts to improve healthcare systems for blood disorder patients. By fostering collaboration among key players in the region, stakeholders hope to continue advancing access to life-saving treatments, raising awareness, and improving the quality of care for affected communities.

With the project concluding, the collective goal remains clear: to build a sustainable framework for blood disorder care in East Africa, ensuring that individuals living with these conditions can access the treatment and support they need for a better quality of life.
