Kenya Shines Bright with First Gold at EAPCCO Games in Ethiopia

Kenya made a resounding statement on Sunday afternoon at the Abebe Bikila National Stadium in Addis Ababa, securing its first gold medal at the ongoing East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) games. The momentous achievement came in the highly anticipated men's 4×400m relay, sending a wave of ecstasy and pride through the stadium as Team Kenya emerged victorious.

The victorious Kenyan team, consisting of William Rayian, Kipkorir Rotich, Erastus Mbaruka, and Eric Kimathi, displayed exceptional speed, teamwork, and endurance, clinching the coveted gold ahead of their regional rivals. Rayian, a 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, alongside his teammates, put on a flawless performance that ensured the Kenyan team crossed the finish line first.

As the Kenyan flag was raised and the national anthem echoed through the stadium, Ethiopia claimed the silver medal while Tanzania settled for bronze, completing the podium of a fiercely competitive race.

The achievement not only marked a proud moment for Kenyan athletics but also reinforced the nation’s commitment to excelling in a variety of sports. Team Kenya, drawn from the National Police Service, expressed high spirits and pledged to continue their pursuit of excellence across other events, including darts, boxing, handball, and shooting.

“We are incredibly proud of this victory, and it has given us the morale and motivation to push for even more medals. Our goal is to finish atop the podium in every event we compete in,” said a member of the Kenyan team after the relay.

The EAPCCO games, which bring together law enforcement officers from seven East African countries, continue to showcase the immense talent and spirit of competition in the region. Kenya’s victory in the men’s 4×400m relay marks the beginning of what they hope will be a medal-laden journey as the games progress.

The pride and joy of the moment were felt not only by the athletes but also by the home fans, with Kenyan supporters cheering on their team as they celebrated this significant achievement.
