The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) has come out strongly to condemn in the harshest terms the disgraceful physical and verbal altercation between two female Members of Parliament within the sanctified halls of Parliament. The association described the incident as a deep stain on the dignity of public office and a betrayal of the values of leadership and womanhood.

In a scathing statement signed by KEWOPA Chairperson Hon. Leah Sankaire, the organization rebuked the appalling conduct, labeling it an affront to the integrity of Parliament and an insult to the many women and girls who look to female leaders for inspiration and guidance.

“Though we acknowledge the pressures that come with political spaces, there is absolutely no justification—political or otherwise—for such disgraceful behavior that tarnishes the image of Parliament and erodes public trust in women’s leadership,” the statement read.

KEWOPA further slammed the circulation of video footage of the incident on social media, calling it an egregious violation of privacy and a dangerous act that exacerbates the humiliation of Parliament as an institution.

“The unauthorized recording and widespread dissemination of this footage is not only unethical but undermines the sanctity and confidentiality expected within parliamentary precincts,” the statement added.

The association has demanded an immediate and impartial investigation into the incident, calling on relevant authorities to take swift action. KEWOPA urged the legislators involved to take full responsibility for their actions and apologize unreservedly to the public and their colleagues.

“As women leaders, we are held to a higher standard—not just by the law, but by the millions of young girls and women who look up to us. We must show restraint, emotional intelligence, and a deep sense of responsibility even in the face of provocation,” stated Hon. Sankaire.

KEWOPA reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding discipline, unity, and professionalism within the ranks of women parliamentarians. The association called on all elected leaders to rise above petty rivalries and personal ego, and to recommit to the values that foster a respectful, inclusive, and dignified political environment.

“This incident should never be repeated. It serves as a painful reminder of what happens when leaders abandon the principles of decorum, respect, and maturity. We must do better. Kenya deserves better,” the statement concluded.
