Kiharu MP Celebrates Over 1,100 Youth at Fanikisha Program Graduation Ceremony

A wave of hope and pride swept through Kiharu Constituency today as over 1,150 young people graduated from the Kiharu Fanikisha Program, a life-changing skills empowerment initiative fully sponsored by the Kiharu National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

The graduation ceremony, held in Kiharu, was presided over by area MP Hon. Ndindi Nyoro, who lauded the program’s impact on transforming the lives of youth through practical, market-driven training. The initiative, aimed at equipping youth and young adults with employable skills, has been widely celebrated across the constituency.

“This is a remarkable day for us in Kiharu,” said Hon. Nyoro. “Through the Fanikisha Program, we are not just handing out certificates—we are investing in the future of our young people. We are giving them skills that open doors to employment and entrepreneurship.”

A total of 535 graduates successfully completed short courses in Hospitality and Cosmetology, receiving comprehensive training designed to prepare them for jobs in hotels, beauty salons, and the wider service industry.

In addition, 615 participants were trained in driving, including receiving their Smart Card Driving Licenses, all at no cost to them. The driving course, fully sponsored by the Kiharu NG-CDF, included both theory and practical lessons, empowering participants with skills that can translate immediately into employment.

What makes the initiative even more encouraging is that some of the graduates have already found employment or started small businesses, thanks to the hands-on skills acquired during the program.

“We are beginning to see real transformation,” Nyoro added. “Young people who were previously unemployed are now earning a living, supporting their families, and building their futures with confidence.”

The ceremony drew a large crowd, with notable attendance from local leaders including Township MCA Hon. Charles Machigo, Gaturi Ward MCA Hon. Gathee Wa Njeru, Wangu Ward MCA Hon. Mama Kangata, Mugoiri MCA Hon. John Kamwaga, Mbiri Ward MCA Hon. Bernard Ruiru, Murarandia MCA Hon. Peter Munga, Hon. Anthony Marubu, Hon. Gladys Wambui, Hon. Hannah Wairimu, Hon. Esther Muthoni, Hon. Agnes Wanjiru, and Hon. Rev. Esther Kamindo, among other invited guests and hundreds of residents.

In his closing remarks, Nyoro reaffirmed his commitment to expanding similar empowerment programs, noting that economic liberation begins with skills and opportunities. “We believe in our young people. When given a chance, they can do wonders. We will continue to walk this journey with them,” he said.
