What was once a crumbling institution marked by dilapidated classrooms and dismal enrollment has rapidly evolved into a model learning center poised for even greater success.
Alumni Answer the Call: “We Couldn’t Watch It Die”
At the forefront of the school’s turnaround is Dr. Henry Rotich, a prominent alumnus and patron of Kipkombot, who has spearheaded the second phase of a sweeping renovation initiative aimed at improving both infrastructure and educational quality.
“This school was in a deplorable state—leaking roofs, cracked walls, livestock roaming in the compound,” said Dr. Rotich during a recent community gathering. “We couldn’t sit back and let it collapse. Education has the power to change lives, and we are committed to giving these children a chance.”
New Life for Old Walls
Renovation works include the refurbishment of classrooms, replacement of roofs, installation of a secure perimeter fence, and preparation of a leveled playground for sports and other activities. A new school feeding program has also been rolled out, aimed at improving concentration and reducing absenteeism.
“Many children couldn’t return home for lunch, especially during the rainy season,” Dr. Rotich explained. “This feeding program ensures they stay in school and stay focused. But we still need help to keep it going.”
Surging Enrollment: From 24 to 150 and Rising
Kipkombot’s revival has had a dramatic impact on student enrollment, which has jumped from a mere 24 to over 150 in under a year.
“We are so grateful to the alumni and especially Dr. Rotich,” said Headteacher Anne Sitienei. “The fencing, water access, and feeding program have changed everything. We’re no longer at risk of closure, and we expect our numbers to pass 200 very soon.”
County Government Throws Support Behind Revival
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who recently presided over the opening of the new AIC Kipkombot ECDE Center in Kabiyet Ward, hailed the school’s transformation and pledged continued government support.
“ECDE development is a key priority for my administration,” Governor Sang said. “We are committed to giving every child a strong educational foundation, and Kipkombot is a perfect example of what can be achieved through unity.”
Final Touches Ahead of Reopening
With the second school term approaching, Dr. Rotich assured parents and stakeholders that renovations will be completed within the week.
“We are on track,” he confirmed. “Our mission is to ensure that when students return, they walk into a safe, dignified, and inspiring environment.”
A Community Reunited
Parents who once gave up on Kipkombot are now being urged to return their children to the rejuvenated institution.
“This is no longer the Kipkombot we knew,” said Anthony Arap Mindio, a local parent. “We have a clean, secure, and supportive environment now. Let’s give our children the chance they deserve.”
