Langas Estate Residents Demand Immediate Power Restoration Amid Rising Insecurity

For the past two weeks, residents of Langas Estate, particularly in the Kambi Ngurue area, have been grappling with a prolonged power outage after Kenya Power removed the estate’s transformer for repairs. As the days go by without any sign of the transformer’s return, residents are raising urgent concerns about the safety and security of the area.

Bishop Paul Mburu, a local leader and outspoken community advocate, expressed his frustration with the situation, urging authorities to take immediate action. "It is totally dangerous to work or even move around at night without electricity. Our community has been left vulnerable to crime, and it’s becoming unbearable," said Bishop Mburu.

He highlighted several alarming incidents in recent days, including muggings, home break-ins, and phone thefts. Residents report that the lack of street lighting has created an environment where criminals can operate without fear of being caught. "People are living in fear, and there is no peace at night. It is time for Kenya Power to act before we are forced to take matters into our own hands," he added.

The community has expressed frustration with the prolonged power outage, questioning why the repair process is taking so long and demanding that their transformer be returned immediately. Some residents are even considering organizing protests to draw attention to the issue.

While the residents understand that maintenance work is necessary, they believe the extended period without power is unacceptable, especially with the rising security risks. They are calling on Kenya Power to expedite the restoration of electricity or face public demonstrations in a bid to get their voices heard.

"We need action now. Our lives and our homes are at risk. The government must step in and ensure that our transformer is brought back so we can live in safety and security once again," said one frustrated resident.

As the situation remains unresolved, residents are anxiously awaiting a response from the relevant authorities, hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing crisis.
