Moi University School of Law Triumphs at Inaugural National Tax Law Moot Court Competition

Moi University School of Law (MUSoL) emerged victorious at the inaugural National Tax Law Moot Court Competition held from March 28-29, 2025, hosted by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) School of Law-Karen. The competition, which brought together top law schools from across the country, saw MUSoL’s team—comprising Jonathan Ndolo and Joseph Aduke—claim the prestigious title after an impressive run.

MUSoL’s journey to the finals was marked by outstanding performances, first defeating the University of Embu in the quarterfinals. They then overcame JKUAT in the semifinals before clinching victory over the University of Nairobi in the finals, securing their place at the top of the competition.

In recognition of his exceptional skills, Jonathan Ndolo was named the Best Oralist of the competition, further highlighting the team's strong legal acumen and advocacy skills. Ndolo’s performance, in particular, was lauded for its clarity, precision, and persuasive arguments, which undoubtedly played a key role in securing MUSoL's triumph.

The success of the team is a testament to the rigorous training and mentorship provided by the university’s dedicated faculty and coaches. Special recognition was given to coaches Rickcard Bett and Julie Khamsa, both MUSoL alumni, who played an instrumental role in preparing the team for the intense competition. Their guidance, alongside the support of the faculty, has clearly contributed to the team’s success in this inaugural event.

“We are extremely proud of Jonathan and Joseph for their remarkable performance,” said MUSoL Dean, Professor David Kiarie. “This victory reflects the commitment of our institution to fostering legal excellence and nurturing the next generation of legal professionals who will make a tangible impact in society.”

MUSoL’s victory at the National Tax Law Moot Court Competition further solidifies its position as a leading law school in Kenya, dedicated to nurturing legal minds equipped to address the complex issues of the modern world. The competition focused on tax law, an area that is becoming increasingly important in legal practice and policy development in Kenya.

The win also demonstrates the university’s commitment to providing its students with opportunities to engage in real-world legal challenges, strengthening their advocacy and critical thinking skills. With this triumph, MUSoL has set a high bar for future moot court competitions and continues to uphold its mission of nurturing legal excellence for societal impact.
