Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary and ex-Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, has alleged that the sudden withdrawal of his security detail on Sunday night is a politically motivated move aimed at intimidating him into silence.
In a statement released Monday morning, Muturi revealed that his two security officers, who had been assigned to him due to his former high-ranking positions in government, were ordered not to report for duty as of April 8.
"Last night at around 7:30 PM, my security detail was withdrawn. The two officers who had been assigned to me owing to my previous position as Speaker of the National Assembly were instructed not to report on duty today," Muturi said.
He suggested that the action may be part of a wider scheme to suppress his voice.
"If this is yet another attempt to cow me into silence, they’ve dialed yet another wrong number," he asserted, signaling defiance and a determination to speak his mind regardless of the circumstances.
Muturi, who served as Speaker from 2013 to 2022 before joining the Cabinet, has in recent months been increasingly vocal on matters of governance and national interest.
The former CS did not disclose who he believes is behind the move but urged those responsible to stop using state institutions for political witch-hunts.
As of the time of publication, there was no official comment from the Ministry of Interior or the National Police Service on the withdrawal of Muturi’s security.
This development comes amid growing concerns over the alleged politicization of state security machinery, particularly in relation to former government officials and opposition figures.
Muturi called on Kenyans to remain vigilant and speak out against any actions that threaten constitutional freedoms and the rule of law.
