In a bid to accelerate the registration of residents under the Social Health Insurance (SHA) program, Nandi County Governor, Stephen Sang, has launched a countywide mass registration and sensitization drive. The initiative, aimed at increasing enrollment from the current 32%, is part of a broader effort to improve access to healthcare services and ensure that more residents benefit from comprehensive health coverage.
The campaign, which is being conducted under the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), is a collaborative effort between the national government, the county government, and key stakeholders. Governor Sang, alongside Hon. Moses Kuria, Senior Economic Advisor to the President, and Emgwen MP Hon. Josses, led the launch of this important initiative. The drive will see extensive sensitization efforts and mass registration across the county, with a focus on reaching every resident.
"The launch of this mass registration and sensitization drive is a crucial step towards ensuring that all residents of Nandi County have access to affordable and quality healthcare. With the current enrollment at just 32%, we are determined to raise these numbers and ensure that more of our people benefit from the Social Health Insurance (SHA) program," said Governor Stephen Sang.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the County Department of Health, with trained Community Health Promoters (CHPs) playing a pivotal role in ensuring smooth registration processes. These CHPs are equipped with specialized knowledge of insurance and digital tools, enabling them to efficiently facilitate the registration process and educate residents about the benefits of SHA.
Governor Sang emphasized the importance of the SHA program, which provides comprehensive health packages designed to reduce the financial burden of medical care. "We encourage all residents to take full advantage of the SHA program, which includes the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHF) for outpatient care, the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) for broader medical coverage, and the Emergency, Chronic, and Critical Illness Fund, which supports those dealing with severe medical conditions. These funds are specifically designed to ensure that our people have access to timely medical attention without the worry of financial constraints," he stated.
The governor also highlighted the role of the national government in supporting this initiative, noting that the collaboration between the county and national governments, along with other stakeholders, will help fast-track the registration process and increase health coverage across the county.
"We believe that this collaboration will not only improve healthcare access but will also set the stage for future health reforms that benefit every individual, regardless of their economic status," Governor Sang added.
The mass registration drive has already received significant support from residents, with many showing interest in signing up for the SHA program. Governor Sang encouraged those who have not yet registered to do so without delay, stressing that this is an opportunity for Nandi County to ensure its residents are covered and protected against unforeseen health challenges.
As the initiative progresses, the county government is committed to ensuring that all residents have access to the resources they need to live healthier, more secure lives. The campaign is expected to continue throughout the county, with a goal of significantly increasing SHA enrollment in the coming months.
