National Land Commission (NLC) CEO CHRP Kabale Tache Arero today represented the NLC Chair at the Senate Standing Committee on Land, Environment, and Natural Resources during their Induction and Work Planning Retreat in Mombasa. The session offered a valuable platform to discuss the Commission’s strategic priorities and ongoing initiatives, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the land sector.
In her remarks, Arero emphasized the Commission’s commitment to advancing sustainable land governance. She noted, "This engagement provided a valuable opportunity to outline the Commission’s mandate, strategic priorities, and ongoing initiatives. This forum underscored our shared commitment to advancing sustainable land governance and addressing critical environmental and natural resource challenges facing the nation."
The discussions primarily centered around the Commission’s functions, current challenges, and the legislative gaps in land management. Key proposals included comprehensive reforms to address inefficiencies, historical injustices, and ongoing land disputes. The need for better coordination and enhanced resource mobilization was identified as critical in overcoming these obstacles.
Arero reaffirmed the Commission’s pledge to collaborate closely with the Senate Committee, particularly in advancing pending legislation and policy reforms. This partnership is expected to align with national goals, particularly in land administration, conservation, and ensuring the equitable distribution of resources across the country.
This engagement highlights the NLC’s proactive approach to addressing the complex issues in land governance and its dedication to working alongside legislative bodies to drive meaningful change in Kenya's land management system.
