Hon. Njeri Maina, affectionately known as “Gasheri Gaitu,” continues to make remarkable strides in transforming Kirinyaga County through her innovative leadership and impactful initiatives. At just 29 years old, the Kirinyaga County Woman Representative has been nominated for the prestigious THAMANI Awards under the Voice of Reason category—a testament to her unwavering dedication to public service and community empowerment.
Expressing her gratitude, Hon. Maina shared, “As a young leader, I’m truly humbled to be nominated for the THAMANI Awards under the Voice of Reason category. I wish to also acknowledge and congratulate all the other nominees, who are women I have immense respect for.” She further encouraged her supporters to cast their votes by sending “VOR2” to 21007, emphasizing that multiple votes are welcomed.
This recognition comes in light of Hon. Maina’s exemplary work through her flagship program, Tupange Kesho, which has significantly impacted the lives of marginalized women and youth across Kirinyaga County. Launched in 2022, the program has injected over Ksh. 15 million into the community, benefiting over 139 women and youth groups. Initiatives under Tupange Kesho include the distribution of 245 tents, 230 water tanks, school furniture, and the construction of dormitories for special schools. Additionally, the program has provided bursaries to over 2,100 students, ensuring that education remains accessible to all.
Hon. Maina’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident through the Jaza Miti initiative, where she distributed over 50,000 tree seedlings and energy-saving jikos to residents. This initiative aligns with the national goal of planting 15 billion trees and encourages community participation in environmental conservation.
Furthering her dedication to education, Hon. Maina launched the Mama Na Kazi Foundation, aimed at enhancing access to quality education for vulnerable pupils. The foundation, which raised over Ksh. 16 million during its launch, provides scholarships and supports skills development, entrepreneurship, and economic growth within Kirinyaga County.
Hon. Maina’s multifaceted approach to leadership—spanning education, environmental conservation, and community empowerment—has not only transformed Kirinyaga County but has also set a benchmark for young leaders nationwide. Her nomination for the THAMANI Awards is a well-deserved recognition of her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the betterment of her community.
