Oscar Sudi Mourns the Passing of Pope Francis: “We Have Lost a Light in This World”

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has joined millions across the globe in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, the 266th head of the Catholic Church, calling his death a deep loss not only to the Church but to all of humanity.

Speaking from Kapseret, MP Sudi described the late Pope as a rare kind of leader — one who led not just with words, but with humility, compassion, and courage.

“It is with deep sorrow that we receive the news of Pope Francis’ passing,” Sudi said. “He was a true servant of God — a man who walked with the poor, embraced the outcast, and reminded us all of the power of love and kindness.”

Pope Francis, who has served since 2013, was known for breaking barriers and pushing the Church toward greater inclusivity and dialogue. His message always cut through political noise and reminded the world of the simple, but powerful, message of peace.

“Even for those of us outside the Catholic Church, his presence was reassuring. He made the world feel smaller and more connected,” Sudi added. “In his soft voice and warm smile, we saw hope. In his words, we found reason to believe in humanity again.”

MP Sudi urged Kenyans and the global community to remember Pope Francis not just in mourning, but by living out his message. “Let’s carry forward his spirit — let’s be more kind, more forgiving, more human. That’s how we honor him best.”

As people around the world light candles and offer prayers, Kapseret stands in solidarity with the Catholic faithful during this time of grief. “Rest in peace, Pope Francis,” Sudi said. “You were a light in this world — and that light will never go out.”
