A suspected drug trafficker was apprehended by officers from Kamagambo Police Station after a tip-off from vigilant members of the public led to the seizure of 401 rolls of bhang, worth an estimated Sh1,032,000.
The arrest occurred after authorities were alerted to a suspicious public service vehicle, registration number KDM 981Z, that was traveling from Migori to Kisumu. The concerned citizens noticed the vehicle's unusual behavior and notified the police, prompting a swift response.
Police officers set up an ambush along the route and successfully intercepted the vehicle. Upon conducting a thorough search, they uncovered two bags containing a total of 401 sizable rolls of bhang, weighing 34.4 kilograms. The narcotics were hidden inside the vehicle, cleverly concealed from view.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Calvin Okoth Otieno, was arrested on the spot. At the time of his capture, Okoth was carrying a group of students, likely hoping to deflect suspicion by blending in with a seemingly innocent crowd. However, his strategy failed to fool the alert public and the officers, who acted swiftly to prevent the drugs from reaching their destination.
Okoth is currently in police custody at Kamagambo Police Station, where he is undergoing processing ahead of his court appearance. He is expected to face serious charges related to the trafficking and possession of narcotics.
This arrest marks a significant victory for law enforcement and demonstrates the power of community involvement in the fight against illegal drug trafficking.
