In a heartfelt statement, President William Ruto expressed profound grief at the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a compassionate leader whose tireless efforts for the marginalized and vulnerable left an indelible mark on the world.
At the historic St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City, where dignitaries, world leaders, and millions of Catholic faithful gathered to bid farewell to the Pope, President Ruto joined the global community in honoring a man whose vision of a just world transcended borders and religions. “We have lost a powerful and compassionate voice that reminded us all that true and meaningful progress must leave no one behind,” President Ruto said.
The Kenyan president emphasized Pope Francis's exceptional leadership in advocating for the poor and the voiceless, embodying the very essence of service. "Pope Francis demonstrated that the greatest use of power is service, and that through care for the poor and the vulnerable, we can achieve lasting good," Ruto added.
Pope Francis, who led the Catholic Church for over a decade, was known for his calls for peace, justice, and a more inclusive society. Under his guidance, the Church became a beacon of hope for the disadvantaged, promoting environmental stewardship, social equality, and interfaith dialogue.
"His Holiness Pope Francis has been a moral compass for many around the world, especially in times of great difficulty and uncertainty," President Ruto noted. “His message of love, compassion, and solidarity continues to inspire us to work towards a more humane world, where every person, regardless of their background, is treated with dignity and respect."
The ceremony in St. Peter’s Square was a solemn occasion, with leaders from around the world gathering to honor Pope Francis’s legacy of peace, unity, and compassion. President Ruto, reflecting on Kenya's own relationship with the Vatican, praised the deep-rooted connection between the Kenyan people and the Catholic Church, which has been instrumental in promoting education, healthcare, and social welfare in the country.
As the world bids farewell to a global spiritual leader, President Ruto promised that Kenya would continue to honor Pope Francis's teachings by striving to uphold justice, equality, and human dignity, following the path of kindness and service that the late Pope exemplified throughout his life.
"May the memory of Pope Francis's leadership and compassion guide us as we work towards building a world where no one is left behind," concluded President Ruto.
