In a momentous occasion marked by pride and purpose, The Co-operative University of Kenya (CUK) hosted H.E. Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, for the official opening of the New Lecture Theatre III Annex.

The President was warmly received by the Chancellor of CUK, Dr. Benard William Chitunga, Ph.D, alongside the University Council and the University Management Board. The event, held at the university’s main campus, symbolized a shared national commitment to fostering excellence in higher education, research, and innovation.

Speaking during the inauguration, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening educational infrastructure as a key driver for socio-economic transformation. “We are investing in institutions like The Co-operative University of Kenya to empower our youth with the knowledge and skills necessary for a globally competitive economy,” he stated.

The newly unveiled Lecture Theatre III Annex is a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the university’s capacity for quality teaching and collaborative learning. With increased space and modern amenities, the lecture theatre is expected to significantly boost academic delivery and accommodate the growing student population.

Dr. Chitunga expressed gratitude for the President’s support, noting that the development is a critical milestone in CUK’s mission to become a center of excellence in co-operative education and research. “This visit and the official commissioning of the new lecture theatre highlight the university’s pivotal role in the national agenda for a knowledge-based economy,” he said.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kamau Ngamau also lauded the government’s support and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between institutions of higher learning and the state to drive innovation and socio-economic development.

This historic visit and the inauguration of the lecture theatre represent a new chapter in CUK’s growth and reflect the broader vision of transforming Kenya through education and innovation.
