President William Ruto has today announced a significant boost for Kiambu County with the allocation of KSh 5 billion aimed at reviving stalled Mau Mau road projects across the region. The revitalization efforts, which will cover Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, and Nyeri counties, are expected to improve connectivity and foster regional economic growth. Kiambu County alone has received KSh 3.6 billion for these critical road projects.
The Mau Mau Roads project is a key infrastructure initiative, and President Ruto emphasized that more funds will be made available over the next year to complete other roads in the Mt. Kenya region, enhancing mobility and supporting economic activity in the area.
“Today marks another step towards transforming Kiambu and the entire Mt. Kenya region,” President Ruto said during his visit to Lari in Kiambu County. “We are committed to ensuring that our road networks are modernized to ease transport, improve trade, and facilitate faster movement of goods and services. The Mau Mau Roads, which are now being revived, will not only make travel safer and more efficient, but they will also create job opportunities and improve the quality of life for our people.”
During the visit, the president inspected the ongoing works on Mau Mau Road Lot 1A and Lot 1B, which are vital components of the road network that will directly connect Kiambu with neighboring counties. These projects are expected to ease transportation of goods, especially agricultural produce, and foster greater trade and investment opportunities across the region.
Additionally, the president unveiled plans for KSh 500 million allocated for electrification efforts in Kiambu County, aimed at connecting more residents to the national grid. This initiative is part of the broader vision to ensure that every Kenyan has access to reliable and affordable electricity, which is crucial for both homes and businesses.
“Access to electricity is a cornerstone of development,” President Ruto remarked. “This funding will enable us to connect more homes and businesses to the national grid, thus driving economic growth, improving education, healthcare, and creating new opportunities for businesses to thrive.”
The president also highlighted the government’s commitment to affordable housing, with seven new affordable housing projects currently under construction in Kiambu County. These projects will deliver a total of 16,000 housing units, providing much-needed homes for the people of Kiambu and contributing to the nation’s housing goals.
As part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, the government is building 25 modern markets across Kiambu County to support local farmers and traders. President Ruto revealed that 11 of these markets are already more than 50 percent complete, and once finished, they will provide small traders with modern spaces to do business, creating more opportunities for economic growth in the county.
“By improving infrastructure, supporting small businesses, and providing affordable housing, we are directly impacting the lives of ordinary Kenyans,” President Ruto said. “The Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda is about empowering people at the grassroots level, creating jobs, and ensuring that the benefits of development reach every corner of our country.”
The president also officially opened the Jitume ICT Lab at Lari Technical and Vocational College. He expressed his satisfaction with the program’s potential to create jobs and empower the youth with digital skills.
“I am truly impressed by the impact of the Jitume ICT Lab. This initiative is equipping our young people with skills that will enable them to access digital job opportunities, both locally and internationally,” President Ruto stated. “In this digital age, we must ensure that our youth are prepared to take full advantage of the opportunities that technology provides.”
President Ruto’s visit to Kiambu County underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to accelerating development, improving infrastructure, and empowering Kenyans to thrive in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
