President William Ruto today commissioned the Nkuene Electricity Sub-Station in South Imenti, Meru County, a significant milestone in the government's efforts to make electricity more reliable, affordable, and accessible to all Kenyans. This new sub-station will provide power to over 20,000 households in the region, boosting entrepreneurship and economic transformation.
In his address during the commissioning ceremony, President Ruto emphasized that electricity is no longer a luxury, but a fundamental necessity for every Kenyan. "We have made it our priority to ensure that electricity is reliable and affordable for all. This is critical for spurring entrepreneurship and driving economic transformation," the President said.
The Nkuene sub-station is part of the government's broader initiative to implement over 375 electricity projects across several constituencies in Meru County, including Buuri, Central Imenti, Igembe Central, Igembe North, Igembe South, North Imenti, Tigania East, and Tigania West. These projects are designed to expand access to electricity for thousands of households, opening up opportunities for local businesses and improving the quality of life for residents.
"We are working hard to ensure that no Kenyan is left behind when it comes to access to electricity. This new sub-station is a key part of our effort to connect more households to the national grid, enabling them to unlock new opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of our nation," President Ruto stated.
The President further highlighted the government’s commitment to making electricity a key enabler of the country's development agenda. By connecting rural communities to power, the government is supporting small businesses, enhancing productivity, and ensuring that Kenya remains on track to achieve its development goals.
"With electricity, we are giving Kenyans the tools they need to innovate, create jobs, and build a better future for themselves and their families," the President remarked.
President Ruto expressed his gratitude to the residents of Meru County for their continued support, promising that more projects will be implemented across the country to ensure that every Kenyan household has access to reliable and affordable electricity. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and other stakeholders in driving these initiatives forward.
The commissioning of the Nkuene Electricity Sub-Station marks another step towards realizing the government's vision of an inclusive, sustainable, and economically empowered Kenya. With continued investment in energy infrastructure, the government aims to accelerate progress and unlock the full potential of every region in the country.
