Kenya is in deep mourning following the tragic deaths of three of its citizens in a devastating fire that broke out in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on Sunday. The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, who expressed profound grief and extended her deepest condolences to the families affected by this loss.
The fire, which claimed five lives in total, has shaken the Kenyan diaspora community, leaving families and loved ones reeling in shock and sorrow. Among the victims were three Kenyans, whose untimely deaths have left a void in the hearts of those who knew them.
PS Njogu, reflecting on the gravity of the incident, acknowledged the pain that has befallen the families of the victims. She assured the public that the government, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, is committed to offering full support to the affected families during this difficult time. The government has already reached out to UAE authorities to ensure that all necessary assistance, including consular services and repatriation, is provided.
The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by Kenyans living and working abroad, and it has reignited conversations on the need for stronger protection and welfare measures for citizens in the diaspora. PS Njogu emphasized that the government will continue to stand with its citizens in foreign countries, ensuring their safety and well-being.
In her message to the public, PS Njogu called for unity and solidarity during this period of mourning. She urged Kenyans to remember the lives lost, and to come together as a nation in support of the grieving families.
As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the Kenyan government remains focused on ensuring that the victims' rights are upheld and that their families receive the care and assistance they need. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has urged any families or individuals in need of support to contact the office for immediate assistance.
The nation, while united in sorrow, stands firm in its resolve to support the families of the fallen and honor their memory. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
