Raila Odinga Mourns the Loss of Longtime Aide and Bodyguard George Oduor

In a statement that has left many in shock, Opposition leader Raila Odinga has announced the passing of his personal aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, who died this evening in Nairobi after a brief illness.

Oduor, who has been a constant presence in the life of the Odinga family for decades, passed away after a short but intense battle with illness. George’s dedication to his duty and professionalism earned him the respect and trust of both his employer and those around him. He had been a loyal confidant and protector of Odinga and his family since the late 1980s.

In an emotional tribute, Raila Odinga described Oduor as “vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional.” He spoke fondly of their long partnership, stating that George had been a dependable rock by his side through many tumultuous periods, both personal and political.

“George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late 80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He has been with me through thick and thin, offering not only protection but also counsel, dedication, and unwavering loyalty,” Odinga said in his statement. “I will miss George, and I am deeply sorry for the many friends and colleagues who miss him already.”

Odinga extended heartfelt condolences to Oduor’s wife, Carol George, his children, family, friends, and colleagues, noting that his loss is felt far beyond his immediate circle.

“On behalf of Mama Ida Odinga and the entire Jaramogi family, I offer our sincerest condolences at this devastating loss,” Odinga said. “May the Almighty grant him eternal peace.”

The late George Oduor’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, as he was not only a bodyguard and aide but a trusted friend and family member. His dedication and service to the Odinga family will be remembered by many who had the privilege of working alongside him.

As details of his funeral arrangements are awaited, many continue to express their sorrow and reflect on the legacy of a man who gave so much to those around him.
