Rebecca Miano Champions Cross-Border Tourism Collaboration Between Kenya and Tanzania

By John Kariuki

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening regional cooperation with Tanzania in advancing sustainable tourism across East Africa.

Emphasizing the shared heritage between the two nations, CS Miano noted that Kenya and Tanzania are united not just by physical borders, but by their rich wildlife experiences, breathtaking landscapes, and diverse cultural offerings.

In a conversation with her Tanzanian counterpart, Dr. Pindi Chana, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Miano discussed key areas of mutual interest, with a focus on strengthening cross-border tourism and conservation efforts.

“We are exploring collaborative frameworks that will enhance regional tourism, protect our shared ecosystems, and promote sustainable development within our communities,” she said.

The engagement took place on the sidelines of the UN Tourism Ministerial Summit, where leaders from across Africa are gathered to forge partnerships, discuss policy, and position the continent as a competitive global travel destination.

Miano underscored the importance of harmonizing travel experiences between the two countries, especially within shared ecosystems such as the Maasai Mara and Serengeti, which attract visitors from around the world.

Her call for unity in tourism development highlights a broader vision of using the sector as a tool for economic empowerment, cultural exchange, and environmental preservation across the region.
