In a statement that has raised eyebrows across Uasin Gishu County, Soy Member of Parliament (MP) David Kipagat has questioned the use of public funds following the recent visit of Gheto President, Calvince Gaucho, to the county. The visit, which was welcomed with fanfare by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, has drawn sharp criticism from the MP, who expressed concerns over the possible misuse of county resources.
Kipagat’s remarks echo sentiments of skepticism that have been circulating following the highly publicized visit, which saw Gaucho, a controversial figure, received like a VIP. While the details of the visit remain unclear, the MP voiced his concerns that county resources, possibly including tax-payer funds, might have been spent to host the visitor.
"Whoever bewitched us in Uasin Gishu seems to have died immediately. I hope our taxes were not used to host this important guest of the county government of Uasin Gishu," Kipagat remarked, casting doubt on the appropriateness of the visit and questioning its legitimacy.
The visit by Calvince Gaucho, a figure who has built a reputation for his unconventional leadership and views, sparked intrigue and debate. Governor Jonathan Bii, on the other hand, offered a warm welcome to Gaucho, which many see as an attempt to build relationships with influential figures outside traditional political circles.
Kipagat’s comments, however, suggest deeper concerns regarding accountability and transparency within the county government. His use of the term “bewitched” alludes to what he perceives as an unnecessary and perhaps extravagant use of public funds, which could have been better allocated to addressing the more pressing needs of the county's residents.
The tension between public officials and local politicians over the handling of county resources has been a recurring issue in the region, with critics arguing that funds are often misdirected towards personal and political agendas rather than community development.
As the controversy unfolds, many residents of Uasin Gishu are waiting for further clarification on the purpose of Gaucho's visit and whether it justified the use of public funds. The growing public interest in the matter suggests that this issue may continue to dominate local discourse as the county seeks to address concerns about governance and financial stewardship.
