As part of its ongoing oversight responsibilities, the Education Committee is conducting a thorough review of all National Polytechnics across the country to identify challenges related to budget implementation, policy gaps, legislation, financing, and sustainability. This initiative aims to address these issues and ultimately support the goal of achieving 100% transition for learners in the country.
Mary Otucho Emaase, the Member of Parliament for Teso South, has expressed her satisfaction with the committee’s recent tour of duty, which took them to Nyandarua, Meru, and Michuki Polytechnics. During the visit, the committee engaged with various stakeholders, observed the institutions’ operations, and identified key areas that need attention.
“It has been a productive tour, and we’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by these institutions,” said MP Emaase. “Our objective is to ensure that these issues are addressed in order to create an environment conducive to both learning and the sustainability of the institutions. We are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to transition smoothly and succeed in their educational journey.”
Emaase also emphasized the importance of this oversight process, noting that identifying and addressing challenges early on is crucial for ensuring the continued growth and development of the polytechnics.
By tackling the gaps in policy, legislation, financing, and sustainability, the Education Committee is working toward strengthening the national education system and ensuring that no student is left behind in the transition from secondary school to higher education.
The findings and recommendations from the oversight tour are expected to play a significant role in shaping future educational reforms in the country.
