In a landmark move to support education and healthcare in Turkana County, TopHill Hospital has entered into a strategic partnership with Mr. Ejikol, the County Secretary of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Turkana branch.
This collaboration, born out of extensive and comprehensive discussions, is focused on improving the welfare of teachers and the community at large. The initiative aims to tackle pressing health challenges faced by teachers while also promoting community health and awareness through targeted outreach programs.
“This partnership is the genesis of something transformative,” said Mr. Ejikol. “For years, teachers in Turkana have labored under difficult conditions, with limited access to healthcare. Today marks the beginning of real, tangible change for our educators and the families they support.”
TopHill Hospital has committed to offering a comprehensive package of health services to teachers in Turkana County. These include regular medical check-ups, subsidized treatment, mental health support, and priority access to emergency care. In addition, the hospital will roll out community-focused health campaigns, addressing key concerns such as malaria, maternal health, and child nutrition.
Speaking at the event, Eric K. Ngeno, Strategy and Operations Manager at TopHill Hospital, underscored the institution’s vision to serve beyond the hospital walls.
“At TopHill Hospital, we believe health is the foundation of development,” said Ngeno. “Our teachers are not only educators—they are community leaders, role models, and caregivers. By supporting them, we are investing in the future of Turkana. This partnership is a long-term commitment to walk together with the education sector in improving the quality of life in our county.”
The collaboration is seen as a model for linking healthcare providers with the education sector to drive social change. Both TopHill Hospital and KUPPET Turkana have expressed their intention to expand the partnership to include wellness workshops, preventative care initiatives, and support for retired teachers.
Community members, local leaders, and healthcare professionals have welcomed the initiative, calling it a timely and necessary intervention in a region where both health and education services face immense challenges.
As the partnership takes root, there is optimism that the ripple effects will touch every corner of the county—empowering teachers, strengthening families, and inspiring a healthier, more resilient Turkana.
