Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has underscored the vital role tourism plays in advancing economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation across developing nations. Speaking at a regional tourism forum in Nairobi, CS Miano emphasized that tourism is not just a leisure industry, but a powerful engine for inclusive and sustainable development.
“As a sector, tourism offers tremendous opportunities for emerging economies and developing countries in equal measure,” she said. “From creating jobs and boosting local economies to supporting infrastructure development, the ripple effects of tourism are far-reaching.”
CS Miano further highlighted the importance of community partnerships in ensuring tourism’s sustainability. She noted that by engaging local communities in conservation efforts and promoting cultural heritage, tourism helps preserve the environment and reduce inequality.
“Through community involvement, we ensure that the benefits of tourism reach even the most remote parts of our country. Conservation of our natural environment and cultural assets goes hand in hand with improving livelihoods,” she added.
