Trans Nzoia County Assembly Deputy Speaker Obed Mwale Mahanga has strongly dismissed reports of a plan by political operatives in Nairobi to orchestrate the removal of Governor George Natembeya through impeachment , terming the rumors as baseless and laughable.
Mahanga described the alleged plot as “hekaya za Abunwasi”—a popular Swahili phrase referring to unbelievable tales—and said such efforts are not only impractical but doomed to fail.
“Story ya mapumbavu ya kupanga kutoa Governor Natembeya kutoka Nairobi ni hekaya za Abunwasi,” Mahanga said firmly. “Haiwezekani na haitawezekana.”
The Deputy Speaker reaffirmed the County Assembly’s unwavering support for Governor Natembeya, citing his development record and popularity among residents as clear signs of strong local leadership.
“Governor Natembeya has earned the trust of the people of Trans Nzoia through tangible development, service delivery, and bold leadership. Any attempts to destabilize his administration from political boardrooms in Nairobi are not only misplaced but an insult to the will of our people,” Mahanga added.
He further warned external forces to steer clear of county affairs, urging them to respect the democratic choice of the Trans Nzoia electorate.
“We will not allow outside interference. Let them know Trans Nzoia is not up for political auction,” he said.
Governor George Natembeya, who has been vocal on matters of governance and national reform, continues to command significant support in the region, with many residents praising his hands-on approach to leadership.
Mahanga’s remarks come amid growing speculation about political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, as alignments and ambitions begin to take shape across the country.
