The county will be represented by two teams—men’s football and volleyball—comprising talented youth aged between 18 and 23 years. The athletes have been undergoing rigorous training at St. Joseph’s Boys High School in Kitale, under the watch of seasoned coaches and sports officials.
Speaking ahead of the teams’ departure, County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture and Tourism, Madam Channel Kittony, highlighted the county’s commitment to empowering young people through sports.
“As a county, we are committed to nurturing and investing in our young people,” Kittony said. “Sports is not just about competition; it’s about giving our youth a chance to grow, dream, and achieve. We wish our teams the very best in Homabay.”
Chief Officer for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture and Tourism, Madam Jane Wachwenge, expressed confidence in the teams' readiness and potential.
“We are proud of the talent and discipline shown by our young athletes,” Wachwenge said. “KYISA provides a great platform to expose their abilities, and we are optimistic that our teams will perform well and even attract the attention of scouts from the Kenya Academy of Sports.”
The KYISA Games, now in their 10th edition, are a national initiative designed to identify and nurture grassroots sports talent. The competition targets youth between the ages of 18 and 23, offering them a stage to showcase their abilities and potentially launch careers in professional sports.
Beyond athletics, the games play a significant role in youth empowerment, promoting discipline, teamwork, and unity. They also help steer young people away from negative influences such as crime and drug abuse. In addition, the games foster cultural exchange and boost the economy of host counties.
The Trans Nzoia teams are scheduled to depart for Homabay on Sunday, just ahead of the official kickoff.
County residents have been urged to rally behind the teams and show their support as they compete against peers from across the country.
