The Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network (UGCSN) held a vibrant and well-attended handing over ceremony on Thursday to mark a peaceful transition of leadership within the organization. The event, held at the FHOK Youth Resource Centre in Eldoret, brought together members of civil society, county officials, development partners, and community leaders to witness the official installation of new office bearers.
In a key moment during the event, the outgoing Secretary General officially handed over office to Mr. Collins Kemboi, who now takes over as the new Secretary General of the Network. Mr. Kemboi, a respected voice in civic engagement and a long-serving member of the network, assumes the role with a clear vision to strengthen the Network’s advocacy efforts and enhance its impact on community development.
“I am honored and humbled to take on this responsibility at such a crucial time for civil society in Uasin Gishu. I commit to upholding the values of transparency, inclusivity, and service to the people,” said Mr. Kemboi. “Together, we will amplify the voices of communities and ensure that civil society remains a strong pillar in our county’s governance.”
The transition comes at a time when the Network is expanding its programs in areas such as social accountability, civic education, environmental justice, and youth empowerment. Mr. Kemboi pledged to work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the Network remains responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.
Meanwhile, Madam Benedine will continue to serve as the Chairperson of the Network, providing continuity in leadership and strategic guidance. Under her stewardship, the Network has seen significant growth in membership, increased visibility at the county level, and strengthened relationships with both government and non-state actors.
“We welcome all new leaders to the network and look forward to achieving even greater milestones together,” said Madam Benedine in her remarks. “This handing over is not just a change in office – it is a renewal of our collective mission to uplift our communities through advocacy, collaboration, and action.”
During the ceremony, outgoing leaders were commended for their dedication and service to the Network, while new officials were encouraged to build on past successes and embrace innovation in driving civil society agendas forward.
Also in attendance were representatives from various civil society organizations, county government officials, development partners, and youth leaders. Speakers at the event underscored the importance of strong, accountable, and people-driven leadership in civil society spaces.
The Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network continues to play a central role in promoting civic participation, defending human rights, and fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors for sustainable development. With the new leadership team in place, members expressed optimism for a dynamic and impactful future.
As the curtain closed on the ceremony, the message was clear: the work of civil society is far from over, and with fresh leadership and a shared sense of purpose, the Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network is poised to reach new hight's.
