Uasin Gishu Governor, Dr. Jonathan Bii, hosted a high-level delegation from the CPRM, NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat on Tuesday to engage in strategic discussions aimed at bolstering governance and socio-economic transformation at the county level.
The delegation, led by Dr. Rose C. Kitur, Director of NEPAD Programmes, engaged with county leadership on various ways to enhance inclusive development. During the meeting, Governor Dr. Bii emphasized the importance of aligning Uasin Gishu’s policies with broader continental frameworks such as the African Union's Agenda 2063 and Kenya’s Vision 2030.
“We are committed to fostering inclusive development and strengthening governance structures in collaboration with regional and international bodies like NEPAD/APRM. This partnership is essential for driving sustainable growth and improving the livelihoods of our people,” Governor Bii said. He further highlighted the critical role of governance reforms, transparency, and accountability in supporting the county’s development.
Dr. Kitur, in her address, reinforced the Secretariat’s commitment to supporting Uasin Gishu’s development agenda, underscoring the importance of policy harmonization, capacity building, and embracing digital transformation for better governance. She emphasized the need for leveraging data-driven solutions and public participation to enhance service delivery in the county.
“Collaboration with local governments is key to driving governance reforms that lead to long-term socio-economic transformation. By focusing on policy coherence and digital tools, we can ensure more effective service delivery,” Dr. Kitur stated.
The discussions also covered critical areas such as agricultural value chain development, climate resilience strategies, infrastructure modernization, and trade facilitation. Both parties explored avenues for Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) that would help unlock innovation and create more economic opportunities for county residents.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was a shared commitment to creating a structured engagement framework that facilitates continuous knowledge exchange, collaboration, and alignment of policies across sectors.
As part of the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat’s broader governance improvement efforts, Uasin Gishu County is now among the ten counties slated for peer review. These counties, including Nakuru, Embu, Murang’a, Baringo, West Pokot, Taita-Taveta, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kericho, and Uasin Gishu, will be assessed to gauge their governance frameworks and socio-economic progress.
Governor Dr. Bii and Dr. Kitur expressed optimism that the partnership would serve as a model for other counties, setting a benchmark for governance excellence and economic growth. The collaboration is expected to align Uasin Gishu with global governance standards while promoting local development priorities, paving the way for a prosperous future
