Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii today conducted an on-site assessment of the ongoing Phase One of the Tendenei Water Project in Karuna/Meibeki Ward, a significant initiative aimed at improving access to clean, reliable water for the community. The project is set to benefit over 100 households and will significantly enhance irrigation capabilities for local farmers, directly impacting agricultural productivity in the region.
Governor Bii was accompanied by key officials from various stakeholders involved in the project, including representatives from FLLoCA (Freshwater and Livelihoods Consultancy Agency), the World Bank, the Danish government, and the area’s elected Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. James Serem. The visit provided an opportunity to review the progress made thus far and to discuss the next steps in the project’s development.
“This water project is one of the cornerstones of our development agenda. Clean, reliable water access remains a top priority for my administration, as we know that it is essential for the health and prosperity of our people,” Governor Bii stated during the site visit. “By enhancing access to water for both domestic use and irrigation, we are empowering our farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices that will have a long-term positive impact on the local economy.”
The Tendenei Water Project is part of a broader initiative in Uasin Gishu County, with 30 completed water projects and 28 others currently ongoing across various sub-counties. The ongoing projects aim to address water scarcity and improve access to clean water, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas, where water supply challenges often hinder economic and agricultural activities.
The Tendenei project, which focuses on both household water supply and irrigation for farmers, is expected to greatly benefit local agricultural activities, providing farmers with the water they need to grow crops more efficiently and increasing their productivity. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to food security and improved livelihoods in the region.
“We are committed to ensuring that no one in Uasin Gishu County is left behind in accessing clean water. These projects are a direct response to the needs of our people, and we are working closely with our partners to ensure their success,” Governor Bii added.
The project has attracted significant funding and support from international partners such as the World Bank and Denmark, further underscoring the importance of collaboration between local, national, and international stakeholders in addressing development challenges.
Hon. James Serem, the area MCA, expressed his gratitude for the project, noting that the positive impact on the community has already been felt. “This water project will change the lives of many families here. Farmers will now have better access to irrigation, which is crucial for improving crop yields, and households will have reliable access to water for daily use,” he said.
The Governor’s visit highlights his administration’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and improving living standards in Uasin Gishu County. With continued investments in water infrastructure and other key areas of development, Governor Bii is leading the way in building a more prosperous and resilient future for all residents.
