Uasin Gishu Governor, Jonathan Bii, today underscored the importance of youth empowerment in driving the county's development during an engaging forum with a group of young people. The meeting, which took place at the Eldoret Town Hall, was attended by key figures, including youth leader Calvin Gaucho, who joined the governor in discussing future opportunities for the county’s youth.
In his remarks, Governor Bii emphasized that the future of Uasin Gishu County lies in the hands of its young people, and as such, his administration is committed to ensuring that the youth are equipped with the tools and resources they need to thrive.
"Our administration has continually prioritized youth empowerment as a key driver of development. We recognize that the young people are not just the future, but also the present of our county. They are the engines of innovation, growth, and transformation," said Governor Bii.
Governor Bii highlighted the county's Nguzo Kumi blueprint, which contains strategic initiatives designed to address the unique needs and aspirations of young people in Uasin Gishu. The blueprint, he explained, focuses on providing the youth with access to quality education, employment opportunities, mentorship, and skill development, among other programs.
“Through the Nguzo Kumi blueprint, we are ensuring that the youth are not left behind. We are creating avenues for them to be actively involved in the county's growth, offering a roadmap for their success, and shaping a brighter future for all of us,” added the Governor.
During the engagement, Governor Bii and Calvin Gaucho interacted with the youth, listening to their concerns and sharing insights on the various opportunities available. The group discussed various sectors including agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship, where young people could capitalize on to propel the county’s development.
The Governor also highlighted upcoming programs aimed at enhancing digital literacy and agricultural innovation, sectors he believes hold immense potential for the youth. He stressed that a well-rounded approach is necessary to ensure that young people are prepared to face the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
The meeting was an eye-opener for many of the attendees, as it allowed them to directly engage with the Governor and express their hopes for the future. Many voiced their appreciation for the administration's continued focus on youth development and vowed to play an active role in the realization of the county’s vision.
