Ushiriki Wema Foundation Hands Over Borehole Project to National Police Service at Kiganjo College

In a landmark gesture aimed at promoting sustainable access to clean water within Kenya’s security institutions, the Ushiriki Wema Foundation has officially handed over a fully operational borehole water project to the National Police Service (NPS) at the National Police College (NPC) Main Campus in Kiganjo.

The project, implemented in partnership with Regner Fu Capital Group (RFCG), was handed over during a ceremony graced by the Founder and Chair of Ushiriki Wema Foundation, Her Excellency Mrs. Tessie Mudavadi, who emphasized the significance of water access in nation-building and in supporting the welfare of frontline service personnel.

“Access to safe water is a fundamental human need and, therefore, a basic human right,” Mrs. Mudavadi said, echoing the words of the late UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Mrs. Mudavadi described the borehole not merely as a piece of infrastructure, but as a “beacon of hope and renewed commitment to the well-being of our police officers.” She noted that the project reflects a deep appreciation for the men and women in uniform, and an investment in their health, dignity, and daily livelihoods.

The Kiganjo borehole initiative marks the first in a series of planned water projects aimed at enhancing facilities in key police institutions across the country. Future installations are expected at the National Police College – Embakasi A Campus, the General Service Unit – Embakasi B Campus, and the National Police Leadership Academy, among others.

Mrs. Mudavadi extended her gratitude to RFCG for their vital role in realizing the Kiganjo project, singling out Mr. Kent Kagicha, RFCG’s Head of Business, for his partnership and commitment.

Receiving the borehole on behalf of the National Police Service, Inspector General of Police Mr. Douglas Kanja commended the Ushiriki Wema Foundation for its continued support to the Service. He acknowledged the foundation’s role not only in infrastructure development but also in environmental conservation, particularly through its support for the government’s 15-billion tree planting initiative.

“This borehole is a timely and much-needed resource,” Mr. Kanja remarked. “It is a tangible sign of support to our officers and will also benefit the surrounding communities. We are committed to maintaining it as a sustainable facility.”

The Inspector General also highlighted the National Police Service’s increased focus on water resource protection, pointing to the recent deployment of the Water Police Unit (WPU) under the Ministry of Water as a key step in safeguarding Kenya’s water security.

The handover ceremony was attended by senior police leadership, including NPC Main Campus Commandant Mr. Nyale Munga, SAIG, Deputy Commandant Ms. Esther Mwangi, AIG, NPS Director of Corporate Communication Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, AIG, and Mr. James Murithi, SSP, among others.
