The County Government of West Pokot emerged as one of the top winners in the 2025 Internal Audit and Risk Awards held at Emara Ole Sereni, Nairobi. The county scooped three highly coveted awards during a competitive ceremony that brought together key players from both public and private sectors across the country.
In a strong show of financial governance and accountability, West Pokot won the following awards:
1. 1st Runners Up Chief Audit Executive of the Year (Public Service) – CPA Thomas Pkemoi Lotiaka
2. Best County Audit Committee – 1st Place in the Counties and County Assemblies Category
3. 2nd Overall Best Board Audit Committee of the Year 2025 – Following closely behind the overall winner, Safaricom Ltd.
Hon. Simon Kachapin extended his congratulations to the County Audit Committee chaired by CPA Samuel Lonyang, with members Diana Rotich, Ruth Cheruiyot, Philip Ptiso, and Meshack Pkukat, as well as the Director of Internal Audit Services and Secretary to the Committee, CPA Thomas Lotiaka.
“The internal audit team has demonstrated excellence in governance, transparency, and risk management,” said the Governor. "These accolades reflect our county’s commitment to integrity, accountability, and value for public resources."
The awards, organized by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), evaluated governance mechanisms and financial safeguards in public and private institutions. All 47 county governments, national departments, state corporations, SACCOs, and universities were among the contenders.
Governor Kachapin emphasized the critical role internal audit plays in enhancing value creation, risk management, and policy compliance, pledging continued support to the audit team through resources and policy backing.
“My administration will keep investing in systems that promote good governance and deliver value for money to the people of West Pokot,” he stated.
