“We’ve Lost a Father”: Rigathi Gachagua Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Pope Francis

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined millions across the world in mourning the death of Pope Francis, describing him not only as a spiritual leader but as a gentle, humble soul who carried the weight of the world with grace and compassion.

In an emotional tribute on Monday, Gachagua said the Holy Father’s passing leaves a deep void—one that will be felt not just within the Catholic Church, but by people of all faiths who admired his unwavering devotion to humanity.

“I join the Catholic Church and the world in mourning the demise of the Holy Father, Pope Francis,” he said. “He was more than a religious leader; he was a voice of hope, a source of peace, and a man whose humility touched millions.”

Gachagua recalled the Pope’s historic 2015 visit to Kenya, a moment that remains etched in the memories of many. “When Pope Francis visited our country, he prayed for us. He reminded us to care for the poor, to love each other, and to protect our environment. That message still rings true today.”

He praised the late pontiff’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life, saying that his simplicity and sincerity made him beloved far beyond the Vatican.

“His doctrine was firm, his faith unshaken, and his love—unmistakable. Even those who were not Catholic felt his presence. That’s rare. That’s what made him special,” Gachagua reflected.

With visible sorrow, he offered his deepest sympathies to the Catholic faithful in Kenya and around the world.

“The Holy Father has left a big gap in the Church and the world. But he also left behind a legacy of compassion, courage, and conviction. We will remember him with love and honor.”

He ended his message with a simple, heartfelt prayer: “May Papa Francis rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him.”

Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88, was known for his humility, progressive voice, and tireless efforts to bring the Church closer to the people. For many, including Gachagua, his loss feels deeply personal.
